Background

Established in 2001, Firs Farm Equestrian is a thriving livery and training yard. It is located in Caxton, a small village approximately 10 miles due west of Cambridge.

Firs Farm Equestrian has developed as a result of the diversification of part of the family farm. The top quality permanent grassland available to us is a legacy of the old dairy farm, and our spacious boxes were modified from original farm buildings.

A small scale breeding program began 9 years ago. It has resulted in the two oldest home breeds now successfully competing. They have been followed by a succession of younger horses from foals upwards.

The Yard Philosophy

We aspire to produce top quality competition horses. Careful and methodical training ensures a programme tailored to the individual horse. There is an emphasis on engaging our young horses through stimulating activities, such as the extensive hacking at our disposal. We believe that if a horse is enjoying its work, the benefits of training are increased, producing a much more rounded individual as a whole.

All horses are welcome onto the yard, not just competition horses. We believe any horse can benefit from professional care and thus improve the harmony between horse and rider.

Our belief is that if a horse is given the correct care including farriery, fit of tack, physiotherapy, feed and much more, then it has the best chance of being well muscled and both physically and mentally capable of the work asked from it. We pride ourselves on our standard of stable management and endeavour to afford our horses the utmost care.

We invite you to come and see yourself. We welcome visitors at any time and only ask that you phone or e-mail us to ensure that someone is available to show you around.
